Cheadle SMU FC

Cheadle and Royal Oak battled it out this morning, both being the only 2 teams unbeaten in the league so far.

Things didn’t start well for cheadle losing their free scoring midfielder Tom Bunn, injured playing yesterday. Things got worse when Leo Birtwistle was forced off injured with just 3 minutes gone.

SMU looked rattled and Royal Oak started much the better. Then on 10 minutes a bad mistake by the cheadle defence left the Royal Oak striker with a gift which he gladly accepted 0-1 Royal Oak.

On 15 mins some good movement down the right saw a shot from Oli Teague from the edge of box just whistle wide of the post.

Cheadle started to apply sone good pressure and pressing, forcing mistakes from the Royal Oak defence resulting in
3 corners in quick succession. All dealt with defensively by Royal Oak.

On 42 mins a great dive by the Royal Oak wide man conned a free kick from the ref. A good delivery led to a scramble and goal line clearance from Cheadle defence.

Half Time 0-1

Cheadle started the better second half and on 49 mins good play from Joel Hancock taking on 2 led to a decent shot saved well by the keeper.

On 51 minutes a great ball from Zac Povey to Ben Cross was finely dealt with by the keeper again.

Then on 52 minutes another mistake by cheadle with 3 men around the ball led to Royal Oak putting a good ball into the box which was not dealt with leaving a tap in for Royal Oak.

On 59 minutes some great work from Kal Humphries holding up ball well before unleashing a shot, beating the keeper but just wide of the post.

Then on 71 minutes Cheadle’s liner decided to take a break, and from a long ball Royal Oaks striker, a good 5 yards off side accepted the gift again firing Oak into an easy 0-3 lead.

This spurned cheadle on and for the next 20 minutes cheadle we’re by the better team. Oak bringing on defensive options to hold onto their clean sheet.

Corner after corner followed until on 82 minutes some good pressure lead to a good shot and goal for Oli Teague 1-3.

On 84 minutes Ben Cross using his pace turned the Royal Oak defender who fell on the ball, but only used both hands, nothing given.

For the next 8 minutes cheadle had fine shot and fine shot saved, the keeper pulling off at least 2 excellent saves tipping them round the post.

But Royal Oak stood firm and on the balance of play deserved their win.

Cheadle didn’t really turn up today and Royal Oak took full advantage, by far the best side Cheadle have played this season. We look forward to meeting you again, all the best for the rest of the season.
