Sharon Booth the senior side secretary has over the last few months being planning a fundraising event to assist in the financing of the senior side.

The side have done exceptionally well this year and finished runners up in the Staffs County Senior League Division 1. We are waiting to hear if they have been promoted to the Premier Division which if they were to be would be a remarkable achievement for a side and a club that did not exist six years ago.

The event is at the Guild Hall in Cheadle from 7.30pm onwards and features well know local group Monkey Finger who have reformed especially. There will be a pie and pea supper plus a licensed bar courtesy of the Huntsman.

Tickets are priced at just £10 a head and all proceeds go to the club apart from a donation to a charity supporting suffers of Alzheimer’s.

08. March 2015 · Comments Off on Club Survey Results on Kingsley Youth Club · Categories: Football

InspiredAs many within the club will be aware and will have taken part we conducted a survey across all age groups regarding the Kingsley Community Centre plan. Briefly the club has been offered the pitch and building at the former Youth and Community Centre for free on the understanding that we bring it back into use. We have secured around £20,000 of funding already including a sizeable sum from the County Council who currently are part of the trust deed covering the site.

The clubs plan is to renovate the building and to make it a base for the club and some  of its teams. The single pitch will not of course accommodate all teams and even though we would use the nearby St Werburgh’s School pitch we will still need to use the leisure centre and some of our current pitches.

The club has submitted a bid for funding to Sport England that will renovate the building and along with donations  of time will see the site transformed. Careful scrutiny of the likely running costs has left the committee content that the building and site can be maintained without affecting the clubs financial wellbeing.

Over a period of less than a week in November and December last year  we received over 150 replies which saw players, parents and supports all having their say on the plans.

The highlights of the survey revealed that over 98% of respondents thought the project was a good or excellent idea. No one thought it was a bad idea and less than 2% thought it was just okay. We feel that is a very strong mandate for what we are striving to achieve.

Respondents reasoning for the project drew strong support for improving player performance due to an excellent playing surface, raising funds from the site to raise funds for the club and to cut costs by playing on our own pitch.

9 respondents felt that the project would have a negative effect, citing that the club were taking on a liability, that clubs funds would be eaten into and that we should share with another club. As stated the club are confident that from a financial point of view the project is not a liability. As regards pitch sharing we are not aware of any clubs in the locality with their own pitch and who would be willing to ground share.

We are confident that the club can sustain the premises and the ground swell of support if transferred into physical support at events etc will ensure that.

The breakdown of respondents showed a good spread from both coaches, volunteers and parents /supporters as well as parents.

Several respondents took the opportunity to comment on the project, some raised concerns (around finance and parking in the main plus distance from Cheadle) which we addressed in an update to Sport England.

The club currently has three sides playing on the pitch at Kingsley and all involved did a tremendous job in the summer in getting the pitch and surrounding area into shape. The club know from feedback  of those currently playing at the site and observing the games in progress that there is a real sense of ownership even now from all involving. There is a real sense of optimism around the ground and this project.

The club hope to hear the result of  their bid for Sport England funding In April.

Below are links to the whole survey results and those results provided by respondents identifying themselves as players.

STOP PRESS 10pm 1/12/14

The survey is now closed in terms of our using it to support the bid for funding – however we are keen to continue to hear from people so its still available to complete the survey.

The results will be circulated in due course.

Some of the clubs supporters, players and volunteers will know that the club are trying to acquire the former Youth Club in Kingsley to act as a base for the club as well as several teams. We are seeking funding from Sport England and wish to conduct a survey with players, parents and supporters etc to hopefully show that the club as a whole support the idea.

Already our under 13’s and our two under 14’s are playing on the pitch at the site but the building is sealed off as there is a lot of work required tio make it safe and usable.

Please take a few seconds literally to complete the survey.

You can access the survey via the link below which allows it be completed on line.

On a pitch that cut up as the game progressed they lost 3 – 1 with Mitch Finney scoring SMU’s goal.

This was the teams first cup semi since formation in 2009 and they have the change to make another with a quarter final to come later on this month.

A regular feature of the run up to Christmas in the Cheadle area is the Round Table’s Santa’s Sleigh street collection.

Pulled by a 4 x 4 (The Reindeer are resting) the sleigh with Santa and sometimes Mrs Claus tours local streets handing out sweets to the children and wishing all a Merry Christmas.

At the same time a collection held with monies going to good causes in the local area.

This year club volunteers have helped out on two such rounds with Saturday 14th December being the 6 hour Tean round.

After a grueling marathon club Youth Secretary Kate Walker tweeted via the @SMU_FC account ‘Thanks for letting us help Santa tonight, just sitting down with a mince pie and sherry to recover, nice to see so many happy kids’

Said Club vice chair Martyn Hordern ‘a big thank you to those members who gave their time up to help to raise money for good causes, especially to the three who joined me and stuck at it for 6 hours in Tean’

Cheadle South Moorlands Under Nines F.C. brought the curtain down on their first competitive season in the Potteries Mini Soccer League with a further two victories on Sunday. The side was formed from boys attending the 9:00 Saturday morning coaching sessions at South Moorlands Leisure Centre. Club Chairman and Chief Coach Ian Morton commented; “This has been a great season for the team and the club is also very proud of our other team in this league, Cheadle SMU Reds. They were also cup finalists and have also finished in the higher reaches of the league too.”

Cheadle SMU Blues have been crowned League Champions and in so doing have amassed a haul of 110 points. The team, who are ably managed by Ross Edwards, have this season won 35 of their fixtures and lost just 4 games in their 44 game season. In the process they also managed to score some 123 league goals whilst only conceding a meagre 30, a remarkable feat when considering that for the whole season the team has functioned without a recognised goal keeper!

In addition to this, the team were also victorious in last week’s Cup final and so this has clearly been a most memorable season indeed. Team Manager Ross Edwards explained, “What we have achieved this season is down to the boys efforts and application. They are a pleasure to work with and I would also very much like to thank all the boy’s parents for the support they have provided throughout the season.” The whole team now looks forward to the league presentation evening when the team boys will finally be able to get their hands on their well earned silver-ware.
