Linley Tavern 2 v 6 Cheadle SMU
After nearly 6 months without a competitive game, Cheadle SMU enjoyed their first league game away of 2021 to Linley Tavern.
After a nervy opening 15 minutes, and Elliot Rogerson having to make a fine save from point blank range to keep the score at 0 v 0, Cheadle finally found their passing boots getting the ball out wide to Oli Teague who drilled in a low hard cross from the left hand side finding Kash Gill free in the box to fire in the first goal of the game after 16 minutes.
It was then Oli’s chance to find the back of the net with some good solo play resulting in him firing in a shot that just slid underneath the diving keeper.
Cheadle continued to press and be the more likely team to score, ensuring they bossed midfield with their captain Robbie Charlesworth, Joel Hancock and Kal Humphries all linking up well and winning the ball.
We continued to put the ball out wide with Alex Shaw down the left and Kash Gill on the right having the constant beating of their men, so it was no surprise after 39 minutes that Alex Shaw cut inside getting on the end of great a piece of skill by Eren Alici to nicely finished for Cheadle’s third of the game, 3 v 0 to Cheadle at Half time.
With a few subs made at half time Cheadle came out much the stronger again and managed to win a free kick just outside the left hand side of the box. James Boswell stepped up to curl the ball into the box but instead ending up drilling the ball into the top right hand corner of the net scoring an absolute worldy of a free kick. Boz was adamant he meant it!
At 4-0 Cheadle took their foot of the gas a little and following a mistake at the back Linley went through one on one with Elliot Rogerson, only for Otty to make a fine save for the ball to then rebound off the Linley player and into the net.
This mistake then seemed to wake Cheadle up again with Eren Alici and then Olver Teague both scoring again to make it 6-1, only for another mistake at the back to gift Linley another goal.
The game finished Linley 2 v 6 Cheadle SMU, a great result after 6 months of no football. Goal scorers for Cheadle

Kash Gill x 1
Alex Shaw x 1
James Boswell x 1
