Sunday 14th June saw over 70 of the clubs junior players getting together for the traditional end of season soccer festival.

With coaches, volunteers and family members over 200 people gathered at South Moorlands Leisure Centre in decent weather in what was a real family afternoon out.

Following a series of mini soccer games which saw some close games played in a great spirt the annual presentations took place, followed by a buffet.

Teams throughout the junior section performed well during the season. At under 8’s and the clubs youngest players the club has seen continued development.  A new coaching event on Tuesdays for year 2 players has now started. In the last few weeks the club has embarked on an attempt to start a girls section holding two taster events in early June. Over 20 girls attended each event and the future looks promising.

Under 8’s Blue were losing cup finalists in the league Subsidiary Cup, and a selection of players from under 7  to under 9 recently went to Crewe Alex’s academy to play games there and performed really well.

Under 9’s Blue were the clubs stand out team of the year at the junior level winning both the league and league cup being beaten just once and drawing just two games all season. The team went to Stoke City to play their academy development team and won as they did when they played Crewe Alex.

At under 10’s, Reds and Blues continue to make steady progress although both sides had mixed fortunes at times. Reds reached a cup final but lost narrowly to a side from the division above them.

Under 11’s Red and Blue moved to the 9 a side format this season and both sides took time to adapt to the higher standard but both showed improvement as the season progressed. Blue’s made it to the League Cup final but lost in the final.

Club Chair Ian Morton also awarded the Matt Plant Trophy for Endeavor to under 8’s Yellow for their continued enthusiasm and team work during the season that saw them also awarded their league’s Fair Play Award. Matt tragically lost his life in a car accident some years ago. Ian remarked that in his early years of coaching Matt Plant was one of the first players he coached and he remembered him well.

The club are looking forward to continued development on and off the field in the coming season and thank all players, parents, supporters and most of all the clubs volunteers who put so many hours into helping to run the clubs various teams.

The individual player awards were made with the following players being the successful recipients.
