We exist to give the whole community a place to play, from the youngest player to over 50s walking football.
Home / About
Since 2009One club, built from two. A grassroots football family in the heart of Staffordshire, open to everyone from their very first kick.
The club was created in 2009 when South Moorlands FC and Cheadle United Juniors formed an open aged side, giving their older players the chance to experience adult football in a developmental setting.
For the 2009 to 2011 seasons the club ran just the one side in the Staffordshire County Senior League. It held its own, but more importantly two former rivals had shown they could work together. In June 2011 the two junior clubs amalgamated with SMU to form a single club for players aged 7 to over 18.
The name says it all. Cheadle, in Staffordshire, where we are based. South Moorlands and United, from the two founding clubs. The crest, with its handshake, symbolises the unity found in the new setup.
Grassroots football is about far more than results, trophies and league tables.
We exist to give the whole community a place to play, from the youngest player to over 50s walking football.
We back the FA Respect programme. Players, coaches, parents and officials all treated the right way, every game.
Sessions are led by coaches holding UEFA B, UEFA C and FA Level 1 licences, focused on developing ability, confidence and a lifelong love of the game.

Our vision is to provide a safe environment for people of all ages to take part, develop, improve and enjoy football, while supporting the coaches and volunteers who make it all happen.
Our aim is to make sure the club has the right structure, people and processes to run effectively in line with FA guidelines, so we can keep delivering football for the whole community for years to come.
Support and retain every existing team while creating new opportunities, for both boys and girls, wherever there is a gap locally.
A positive environment where every player can develop the skills to reach their potential, with clear pathways and the right level of competition.
Recruit, develop and retain coaches who feel supported, motivated and rewarded, so they can keep helping our players grow.
Make sure the right people are in place and every volunteer feels supported, sharing the load and welcoming new helpers along the way.
Secure and improve the pitches and changing facilities we need, maintaining what we have with a clear focus on growth.
The right legal structure, leadership and processes to keep the club sustainable, well managed and true to FA Charter Standard.
Creating the right environment for our players, on and off the pitch, matters to us. The FA Respect codes of conduct make sure everyone connected with the club plays their part in keeping football fun, safe and inclusive.
We follow individual codes of conduct for each part of our football family, and ask everyone at the club to sign up to them every season.
Cheadle SMU is run by a dedicated team of volunteers who give their time to keep the club running for everyone.
